About the Foundation

History

The Black Family Foundation is a small private foundation established in 1993. The Foundation operates from Erie, Pennsylvania, where the officers are members of the Erie community. In the last decade alone, the Foundation has donated over $13 million throughout the Erie community and organizations around the globe.

Our Mission
The Black Family Foundation is focused on strategic nonprofit investments throughout Erie County in Northwestern Pennsylvania that leverage the fewest resources for the greatest gains in social progress.

Program Areas

The current program interest areas of the Foundation have been funded throughout two decades’ of funding history. These six funding areas include:  Health & Welfare; Entrepreneurial Education;  Homelessness; Environmental Sustainability; Economic Initiatives and Technology Initiatives. The board will occasionally fund a program or project outside of the scope of these areas and/or for local, regional, national or international charitable purposes. Most grants are for a one-year period although a few multi-year awards have been made.
